Coronavirus: Florida passes 12,000 deaths, reports 2,564 new cases Sunday

Florida reported 2,564 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday along with 38 more resident deaths.

The state is now up to 646,431 confirmed cases, 11,849 resident deaths and 40,024 hospitalizations attributed to the novel coronavirus since the start of the outbreak, according to the state health department’s dashboard.

At least another 152 nonresidents have died from COVID-19 in Florida.

The new deaths announced Sunday include 15 in Miami-Dade County and four in Palm Beach County.

The statewide positivity rate from yesterday’s tests was 5.06%, continuing a trend of encouraging numbers in that category.

The statewide positivity rate over the past seven days is 5.66% and the two-week positivity rate is 5.68%.

MIAMI-DADE

Cases: 161,363 (+345)

Deaths: 2,665 (+15)

Yesterday’s positivity: 6.20%

 

 

BROWARD

Cases: 73,293 (+181)

Deaths: 1,215 (unchanged)

Yesterday’s positivity: 3.86%

 

 

MONROE

Cases: 1,764 (+6)

Deaths: 16 (unchanged)

Yesterday’s positivity: 6.25%

 

 

PALM BEACH

Cases: 43,067 (+162)

Deaths: 1,166 (+4)

Yesterday’s positivity: 3.77%

The United States has passed 6.2 million confirmed cases, with over 188,000 deaths from COVID-19, the highest numbers in the world. Over 2.3 million Americans have been deemed recovered, according to data compiled from various sources by Johns Hopkins University.

Worldwide, the number of COVID-19 cases reported has surpassed 26.9 million. There have been more than 880,000 deaths worldwide attributed to the pandemic, with over 17.9 million being declared recovered.
